My Hair Journey

Hi Friends!

If you are like me you like to be adventurous in makeup and hair looks.  I like to cut my own hair or get it cut often.  Trying out different looks is in my blood…. maybe just maybe it’s the hairstylist in me.  I get bored easily and need changes.  I also get inspiration through Pinterest, real life,  and what I used to see in salons while working there.  I thought it would be fun to post a blog on the different looks that I have gone through in the last two years or so.  Maybe it will give someone a push to try something outside their comfort zone just a bit, or simply something new, fresh and fun!

So first I had long and straight, face-framing layered hair with a middle-ish part.

Then I tried side bangs, side parts and curled hair.

IMG_7359 IMG_7056 March2013_Kat_iPhone 1000 IMG_6928

Then I tried straight-across blunt bangs, it’s fun to be a bit mysterious and try new things. I have a previous blog post where I show how to cut your very own blunt bangs as shown in the following pics.

IMG_4228 IMG_4234 IMG_4273

Then I got it cut to a mid-length introverted bob- (Shorter in the back and longer in the front)

Straight and curled same length pictured here.

Then I got it cut even shorter to shoulder-length.

20141028_151216 20141208_110340 20141208_110217

Then I finally decided to grow my hair out again a bit and currently I have Mid-length hair again with full side bangs.

I’ll post a pic soon. If you know me you have seen them posted on Instagram/Facebook. 🙂

My Beauty-only Instagram is Bambeautygal, if you would like to check it out sometime.

So that’s it, if you try something new let me know what you try or friend me on instagram so I can see what it looks like!  I love to see new looks on people, before and afters are so inspiring.

Until next time,

My Favorite foundations

Hello dear friends and followers of my blog!  It has been awhile hasn’t it?  I felt like sharing my favorite foundations with all of you well because that is the most important part of makeup. The starting point to everything else layered upon it. When the foundation doesn’t look great, nothing else will. Anyway, these are the best foundations out of all the ones I have tried so far. Which is probably near 25 maybe more. Yikes! That’s a lot.

Let’s get into it shall we?

Best Full-Coverage Drugstore Foundation is Revlon ColorStay- This lasts for the longest amount of time out of all my foundations.  This is incredible foundation- it is a satin, almost-matte finish and it is a full coverage.. This foundation comes in 20 shades, so it has a nice, large range to choose from.  It sets fast so you have to work quickly.  This product works best with a beauty blender or cheaper alternative sponge that is wet.  They have great ones at Walmart for about 6 or 7 bucks.  I cannot say enough good stuff about this foundation.  This is Long-lasting, has great full coverage, a flawless finish and it is awesome!

A photo using Revlon Colorstay.  Covers imperfections and it’s very full coverage.

Best High End foundation for dry/normal skin is NARS SheerGlow- This is incredible if you like a slightly dewy, glowing complexion.  It is a light to medium coverage foundation.  I love this for the winter months when I need a boost to look glowing and healthy.  It feels so nice and light on the skin.  I love this stuff it looks great in natural and outdoor harsh light.

A pic using the NARS Sheer Glow. It has a nice glow to it 😉

Best Luminous Drugstore Foundation is Loreal True Match Lumi- This is similar to Nars Sheer Glow but a cheaper alternative.  If you like dewy, healthy-looking skin and can’t afford to spend as much this is for you.  A lovely product.  It also has an SPF of 20 in it so it has built-in sun protection added bonus!

So that’s it!  Let me know if you try one of these or what your favorite foundation is so I can try it out sometime!

Most Used Hair Products

It’s a 10 Miracle Leave-in Product:  This product gives your hair a soft touchable feel, it detangles and repairs breakage temporarily.  Love this.  Spray on wet hair before styling.  The scent of this is divine.

Aquage Sea Salt Texturizing Spray:  Gives your hair texture and gives your hair styles something to cling to.  Great to use if you are going for that beachy, wavy, messy look.

Redken Glass 01 Smoothing Serum:  This smoothes frizz and baby hairs and also makes your hair shine like glass 🙂 Another similar favorite  product that I  absolutely love is the Chi Heat Serum it looks great on your hair if you desire shiny, smooth, polished hair.  Apply right before heat and focus on the ends of your hair and maybe just a teeny, tiny bit after styling to give your hair shine…but don’t overdo it!!! This product turns into greaseball heaven quickly if you use too much.  So Fine, thin hair beware!

Bedhead Superstar Queen for a Day Thickening Spray:  This gives you volume!  Height and thickness in your hair almost always is a good thing. The trick with this product is to apply it when your hair is still pretty wet and to blow dry it quickly and fully afterwards.  If you do not blow dry your hair with this product all the way until it is completely dry it doesn’t do its job.  So skip this if you are an au naturale, no blow drying hair kind of gal.  (I only use this like once a week because my hair takes forever and a day to blow-dry)

Bedhead Headrush Shine Adrenaline and superfine Mist:  This is a Shine spray and has a light feel on the hair, this would work well for fine, thin hair peeps.  This product is an after styling product or after blow drying I believe.  I like to use it after flat ironing.

Bedhead Master Shine Hairspray:  This hairspray gives a medium hold, and obviously shine.  One of my favorites forsure and most used so far of hairsprays.

Dry Shampoos:  I love the Bedhead one…I think its called Dirty Little Secret Dry Shampoo, I also like Indie Dry Shampoo and also Suave Dry Shampoo ain’t bad either.  This product is amazing, life-changing stuff for people with oily hair.  Apply to roots anytime you have oiliness in between showers.  Most dry Shampoos come out with a white cast on the hair so don’t be alarmed, simply use your fingers first and rake it through and rub it in and then grab a comb or brush and brush it through. Instant volume -Bam!

That’s it let me know what you use and love…until next time.

From, BamBamBeautyGirl

The Best Concealers of all time!

All Time, Must-Have, Best Ever Concealers!

Maybelline Dream Lumi Concealer $7-9:  Amazing stuff!  Blends like a dream, really!  This is a medium coverage, gel formula concealer with a touch of luminosity to hide those bags of darkness under your eyes.  It comes in 6 shades and is also good for highlighting your facial features.   Covers and blends easily and feels very lightweight.  This is also great for on the go and touch-ups.  Love it!

MAC Prolongwear $20:  Great, long-lasting, medium-full coverage concealer.  This concealer is lightweight and has a thin fluid consistency (basically like putting water on your face).  This also has a matte natural finish and comes in 16 shades.  This makes your makeup stay put much longer than the other ones.   I recommend this for weddings, photography and hot/humid weather.  Downside: The price and the pump on this pushes out more product than needed.

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind $7-10:  This concealer smoothes fine lines and blends beautifully.  The unique applicator has a sponge tip that you apply directly underneath your eyes to reduce puffiness, fine lines and dark under eye circles.  It feels lovely and I just love this one too.  I would recommend this one to anyone, but people with mature skin would benefit from this moisturizing, micro-filling technology.

MAC Select Cover-up $19:  Love this.  Feels like skin.  This concealer does all the things you want a concealer to do – brighten and covers spots.  This blends in better than all the rest because it feels like skin once it is rubbed in.  Downside: The bottle size is small for the price.

Last of all, when using any concealer remember to always set it lightly with powder, especially under the eyes.

That is all for now,

Love from BaM BaM Beauty

Recent NYX makeup purchases/review

Hello there gals!  I have a little review for you all.  As some of you may know NYX is one of my favorite makeup brands, especially for lip products and cheek items.  So let’s get into this!

pore filler

Pore Filler:  This primer claims to be a “Magical agent that minimizes the look of pores to create a smooth porcelain doll-like finish to your face”.  Also, it says that you can use it as a base or wear it alone.  First of all, I have very large pores on my cheeks and nose (I HATE THEM!) so I am always looking for something that will cover them.   This product does not seem to cover my huge pores on its own, but with a foundation or BB cream over the pore filler it does a good job as a base/primer.  I have found that it covers my pores best if I pat it gently into the pores on my cheeks and nose and let it sit for a minute before I place foundation over top . . . but rubbing it in makes dry, patchy skin and pores more apparent and visible.  If applied correctly this product does a pretty good job overall and I would absolutely recommend it.

liquid illuminator IMG_3149

Liquid Illuminator in Gleam:  This face illuminator can be used as a highlight or an all-over face glowy-brightener.  There are two shades: Sunbeam, a light pearly-silver pink shade for fair to medium skin tones, and Gleam, a light golden shade that is best for light-medium to darker skin tones.  You may be wondering why I, the whitest girl you will ever meet, got the darker one instead – I wanted more of a sun-kissed glow all over instead of just a highlight this time around and it works well for that if blended in with foundation.  This Illuminator is very lightweight and is wonderful for summer months, or anytime you want a healthy glow for that matter!  This is a great product.  *Although I will warn you if you want just a highlight on your cheeks and are light-skin toned, I would go for the lighter shade because Gleam will be too dark for you.

taupe blush

Powder Blush in Taupe:  This is a cool-toned powder brown blush.  With this product I had heard through other makeup artists/beauty bloggers that if you have light skin and most bronzers are too orange on your skin, you could use this as your alternate bronzer and contour.  So I gave it a try and it is my new favorite contour powder!!!  If you find yourself looking too orange with other bronzers and have light skin, give this a try!!  I would highly recommend it.  *Make sure you blend really well with this product!

creme brulee

Butter Lipgloss in Crème Brulee:  This lip gloss gets raved about in the beauty world so I had to give it a try!  This is a natural light/medium pink shade.  This shade would look good on almost anyone, especially if you like natural, glossy lips.  The texture is smooth and buttery like its name and it smells like cake batter.  Yum!  I love this gloss and want to try more of the colors.  Get it if you love lip glosses 🙂

lip plumper

Pump it Up Lip Plumper Gloss in KIM:  This is similar to Kim Kardashian’s signature peachy-nude glossy lip shade that she often pairs with her amazing sultry, smokey eye makeup.   I’m not a huge fan of her personally, but I am a HUGE fan of her makeup and hair.  She is gorgeous!  Anyways, more on the lip product . . . this is not sticky like some lip plumpers tend to be.  Instead, it has a lovely light mint scent and it actually does make your lips look and feel a little plumper.  Great gloss as well.

That’s all for now folks!  Hope you find this helpful and I’ll see you next time!  Let me know what your favorite NYX products are in the comments below, Thanks!

A Bare Mineral Makeup Review

Bare Mineral Makeup Review

Recently I bought some Bare Mineral Makeup and wanted to write a mini review, share my thoughts, and provide some helpful suggestions for first-time Bare Mineral users.  Enjoy and thanks for reading!

bare mineral foundationsleep in it

Bare Mineral Original Foundation in Fairly Light:  This foundation has a smooth, luminous but natural look to it.   In my opinion I would say it is medium coverage.  This covers redness and most blemishes although your true skin still shines through but with an even, natural coverage.   This foundation contains five pure ingredients which I found to be very attractive and is a healthier better-for-your-skin option.   It also has an SPF of 15, great to have built in sun protection.   I consider this a great foundation for combo and dry skin types, I would say go for the Matte formula if you are overly oily.  I highly suggest using a primer before this foundation to insure that it stays in place.  *It DOES NOT have to be the Bare Mineral Primers …. Although I’ve heard if you like a luminous, dewy look to your skin the Brightening Primer is a great option.

Another suggestion is if you don’t want to purchase their face brushes due to their price, I found that Real Technique brushes work just as well and are much cheaper; you can find them at your local Ulta or  (Go for the buffing and concealer brush in the Real Technique Brush line.)  Also remember to do the swirl, tap-away tip mentioned in the Bare Minerals instructions to make sure you don’t have too much product on your brush when applying.  Overall, I really like this foundation – the lasting power is good, feels great on the skin, it is lightweight and natural looking.  My two complaints so far would be the messy factor and having to be careful with loose powders, it is very easy to get on clothes and if you have kids or pets be mindful of them tipping over containers and whatnot.  Secondly, I think I may have gotten a  bit of acne from this because my skin is so sensitive when switching products.

bare mineral well rested

Bare Mineral Brightening Concealer in Well Rested:  This is a great powder concealer for fair to medium skin tones and brightens up the under eye area beautifully.  It can also be used as an all-over face concealer.  I recommend this and really enjoy it.

hint blush 2hint blushhint 3

Bare Mineral Blush in the color Hint:  This blush is a gorgeous mid-tone pink blush that blends like a dream and looks like a pretty, natural flush on your cheeks.  This shade I think is very universally flattering.  This does have a slight shimmer to it but it definitely does not look glittery or over powering whatsoever.  Definitely recommend!  Also there are 19 beautifully pigmented blush shades to choose from and many of them look amazing!

ready mineral veil

Mineral Veil Ready Compact in Light:  The mineral veil is made to blend all the other face products together and to slightly mattify the whole look overall.  I choose the color light which actually turned out not to be light enough for me unfortunately …  I should have gone with the transparent but oh well, I’ll make it work.  The READY Line is convenient to take with you on the go since it is in compact, pressed form (the Mineral Veil Original does come in loose powder form, if you prefer it).  This product is not completely necessary in my opinion, but it does help blend everything together more seamlessly and gives a more airbrushed finish to the skin.  If you like your look a little bit more natural though, mineral veil isn’t a must have.

That is all for now ladies!  Let me know if you love Bare Minerals!

Primers 101

What are Face Primers?  Face Primers create a smoother and longer lasting base for your foundation.   Primer is something for your foundation to stick and cling to so it won’t slide right off of your face especially in humid and very hot climates or during the summer months.   All skin types can benefit from a face primer as well.   There are many different kinds of primers on the beauty counter shelves though and it is difficult to decide which one to get.   I would recommend getting a primer that fits your needs best based on what is stated on the packaging.   For example, do you have red, blotchy skin?  Cover it with a green Face Primer. *NYX, ELF, and Smashbox have one.   Do your have large pores?  Get a face primer that smoothes pores and makes them appear smaller and less visible.   Do you need a Long-wear Primer for a wedding or an all-day event?  Use one that specifically says Longwear and Shine-Free.   Do you prefer a Matte or Illuminating Primer?  There are primers for that as well.   Many Primers claim to do it all but in my experience I have found that even the multipurpose products do only one or two things well.

P.S.  Also keep in mind primers pair better with certain foundations and sometimes dissolve and break down with others … So if you get a primer try it with different formulas and types of foundation before you give up on it OR return it and try another.   *Also Sephora can give you free baby-size samples before you buy.

My Primer Recommendations:

Rimmel Fix & Perfect:  What it does best?  This prolongs your foundation and evens out skin overall.  This Primer makes foundation stay on best and longest out of all the primers I have tried so far.  This works well with most foundations and formulas that I’ve tried as well.  What I don’t love?   It claims to minimize pores it does an okay job, but not nearly as good as Benefit POREfessional.

ELF Mineral Infused Primer:   What it does best?  Smoothes dry and patchy skin and gives foundation something to cling to.  It has good lasting power if you use sparingly.  What I don’t love about it?  This has a gel/watery consistency and makes it slippery if you apply too much so use only a small amount in problem areas or else it can do the opposite of what you want.

Benefit POREfessional Primer:   What it does best?  Its name says it all really.  It is a POREfessional … it minimizes the appearance of pores and smoothes skin overall.   I really liked this sample and thought it did an awesome job.   I would like to purchase it sometime but I did not want to shell out 31 dollars for a small bottle of primer right off the bat if it didn’t work great.  Downside:  The price and I would also say it did not have super long-lasting power for me personally … but maybe I didn’t use it long enough or with the right foundation overtop.

Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser:  What it did best:   NOTHING, in my opinion.   I was hoping it would be like the POREfessional.   It achieved the exact opposite, this primer did NOT make pores look smaller, I actually feel like it made them appear larger and it was super greasy and all of my foundations slide right off my skin.   I know some people love this but I did not.   Maybe it’s my skin type or I didn’t use it with the right foundation formula?  In my personal opinion though it royally sucked, huge FAIL.

Lastly, I love BB creams used as a primer just as much as actual primers.  I have Two Favorites.

Loreal Magic BB cream is great used alone or with a foundation over top.   It works well for all skin types but especially oily skin.  It primes and corrects your skin tone and lasts well underneath a foundation.

Maybelline DreamFresh BB cream: This product has 30 SPF in it which is great for summer; It also perfects skin and makes foundation stay on longer.

So that’s it.  Hopefully this helped for those of you wanting to try a primer in these hot summer months. Until next time,

Love from BAM BAM Beauty

Makeup products to use in the HOT summer!

                                                                         SUMMER MAKEUP THAT LASTS!!

              IMG_0474                                         IMG_0479

I really like to go pretty basic and minimal with my beauty routine in the summer.  I feel like most products melt away for me, even the ones claiming to be smudge-proof and sometimes even waterproof.  In my search for new and longlasting makeup I have found a few great products for the summer that I would recommend.  If you feel like your makeup is wearing off within an hour or two during the hot summer months check out some of these products.  Also let me know what your go-to summer products are…

Makeup is Forever Aqua Waterproof Eyeliner:  This eyeliner stays put but is still creamy and does not drag or tug on the skin around your eyes.  This is a great eyeliner, try it if you need a new one!

MAC Prolongwear Paint Pots:  Oily eyelid or see-through veiny eyed people, this is good stuff.  They are available in a plethora of shades and stay put all day!  Also another option for an eye primer that is a favorite of mine is the Urban Decay Primer Potion. Alternatively, you could use a longwear concealer such as MAC’s Prolongwear Concealer for a primer.

Revlon Colorstay or Revlon ColorStay Whipped Foundation: These foundations stay on a lot longer than most foundations.  I still have to set these foundations with a powder but it lasts at least half of the day if not longer with only one or two little powder touch-ups.  Also these come in many shades and for oily and dry skin types so just about anyone can find the right one.

BB creams: These are lightweight, feel great in the summer and do not make pores stand out as much as regular foundations do. *Tip: Always put a powder over top to keep shine at bay.  My personal favorites are: Maybelline, Loreal, and Garnier for oily skin.

Loreal Telescopic Waterproof Mascara or Voluminous Waterproof Mascara: I NEED this for windy and extra sunny days because I have super sensitive and watery eyes.  This will still flake a little bit but at least once it dries it does not smear so you won’t have raccoon eyes… that is not a pretty look!  I think this gets the job done, that being said I do not recommend wearing waterproof mascara every single day because of the drying effect it has on the eyelashes.

Rimmel Stay Matte Transparent Powder:  This powder will keep you shine-free for a good amount of the day and works great on many skin types.  *A higher end option is the MAC Mineralize Skinfinish.

Face Primers: I will be writing a more in-depth blog all about face primers soon! But for now my favorites are Rimmel Fix and Perfect, Elf Mineral Infused Face Primer, and BB creams used as a primer: Loreal’s Magic BB cream claims “to prime, perfect, hydrate and correct”. Also Maybelline’s BB Cream is great as well.

Anastasia Brow Pomade:  This brow product is a gel-like consistency.  This is waterproof and sweatproof and it is fantastic!  It really works!

Lip Products that have a little more lasting power:  Ulta Brand Lip Crayons and Lip Stains.  A good trick is to use a lip liner to fill in the whole lip and then your favorite lip color over top.   This simple technique will really make your lipstick stay on a lot longer.
Lastly, layering your makeup is a great way to make your makeup last all day!  A few examples of this is using regular old pencil eyeliner then layering a liquid or gel eyeliner over top. Or try using a cream blush and then a light layer of powder blush over it to set it and make it pop like you have a healthy fresh glow from within.

To give you an idea of what these products look like on the face, and maybe a little summer time makeup inspiration, check out pics below:

My MAC Make-up Must-Haves

MAC Stands for Make-up Art Cosmetics.  The product line was started in Canada by a make-up artist and photographer, Frank Toskan along with his friend a salon owner, Frank Angelo.  This brand is known for its wide range of colors, its unique packaging, and its products that promote self-expression and individual beauty for every person.

It makes sense why so many people have come to enjoy and love these products.  They have great coverage, they blend smoothly and there is a shade for dare I say? Every skin tone!  The eye shadows and lipsticks have great pigmentation and last longer than most products.  Yes, they are pricey but they last a long time so I think some of the products are well worth it, if used often.

That being said, going into a MAC makeup store can be overwhelming and it is hard to decide what is worth getting.  These are my personal favorites so they might not work for everyone, but at least you can take a look at them to decide if they might work for you.  I hope to give you a place to starting point if you have not used MAC before.

So let’s get into it shall we?

prolongwear concealer

Prolong Wear Concealer.  I place it on my eyelid, under-eye area and places I want to highlight.  Since it has the prolong wear technology in it it works as an eye shadow primer as well.  The coverage is great and it stays on much longer than other brands I’ve tried.  *Tip: This product dries quickly and sets fast.  So only put down product in one area and then blend, then go to the next.  When I first got it I put it everywhere I wanted to highlight and it dried and smeared before I could blend it in well.  I looked like crap, but when you learn to work with it you will absolutely LOVE IT!

paint pot

Prolong Wear Paint Pots:  I have Painterly.  This is a boring color but a goody.  I use this often for an eye shadow base and it makes my eye shadows look way more vibrant and it does not crease.  Oily eyelid people – this may be the thing for you.

MAC Melba blush 1

Blush Melba and Warm Soul are my two faves.  These shades look great on everyone I’ve seen try them.  I am not kidding.  Melba is a Matte peachy delicate pink.  Warm Soul is a slightly shimmery gorgeous warm pinkish-mauvy color.

Lipsticks:  These are awesome!  There are so many colors to choose from, it is like being in a candy shop not knowing what to get because everything looks so delicious.  The selection is fantastic and their seriously is a color for everyone.  My faves:  Myth, a nude light peach color; Syrup a natural berry pink; and Ruby Woo or Russian Red are fantastic reds.

Lipliners:  I love Spice and Stripdown so much,  I use them almost every single time I put on lipstick.

Eye-shadows:  Where to start when you see these?  Well, Shroom is a great highlight.  Kid, Soft Brown or Saddle are good crease colors.  All That Glitters is a pretty lid color.  Shroom, All That Glitters, and Soft Brown I use most often for an everyday neutral look, but so many of them are gorgeous.  Obviously you don’t need a ton of these but here are some other great ones to check out:  Satin Taupe, Amber Lights, Sketch, Swiss Chocolate, Naked Lunch, Cranberry, Tempting, and Brown Script are some really pretty shades… that I’ve tried but I don’t own all of them.  I’m sure there are many more that are amazing too!

MAC Mineralize Skin Finish Natural:  A great touch-up/setting powder.  This product is so smooth and velvety on your skin.  I guess it may not be a must-have since I’ve been using a drugstore powder for quite some time, but if you can spend the money it is a great option indeed – that I really, really like . . . really.

So that is my list so far!  I did not list a foundation from MAC because I have not found one from there that I like yet.  I have only tried two and they just didn’t do it for me.  Let me know what you like best.  What is your must-have foundation or other MAC product that you cant live without having in your make-up bag!

Also Things I want to try From MAC someday:  Soft and Gentle Highlight Mineralize powder, Strobe Cream, Prep and Prime Highlighting pens, Natural Radiance Primer and last but not least duh?  Different shades of lipstick and lip-glosses of course…. I’m obsessed.  Anyway, I have heard great things about these products in particular.  If you have tried them I want to know what you think about them and if you think they are worth it???  Thanks!

Until next time,

Love from BAM BAM Beauty Girl
